This year in science we are studying physics. Last week in class we experimented with speed. We did this using mini race tracks, launchers and hot wheel/matchbox cars. To help us get a better understanding of how cars go and how fast they can go we compared the cars we had to real cars. Turns out that the mini cars are not that much slower than the real ones. We discovered this by first picking a car and measuring how long the track was. Then we tested the car on the track, timing how long it takes to get from the launcher to the end of the track. We did that about seven times or until we think that al of the times were accurate. We then averaged all of our times and figured out how many inches per second the wen went. From there we figured out feet per minute and then mile per hour. My car went 6.3 miles per hour. It was the fourth fastest. Thats pretty fast! Now that we experimented with speed on a level surface we are now moving into speed on ramps. This experiment will be very similar to the one we just completed except with an uneven surface instead on a fat track. I am really enjoying these types of experiments. I like how we got to figure out our cars mph and looking forward to experimenting with ramps.
