Cow Eye Dissection Reflection
Today, in science we dissected cow eyes. Before we started anything we put on gloves and goggles. We then were given are materials, trays, box of tools, and of course our cows eyes. The tools we used that were in the tool box were a pair of scissors, a ruler,a scalpel, a probe, and tweezers. When we were first given the cow eye it looked gushy and it was about the size of a golf ball. We started off just cutting and peeling of the fat and tissue. Then we cut through the cornea with a scalpel. When that was removed we could see the the iris and a little bit of the lens. We peeled back the iris and then we could see the full lens. We pushed the lens out and it almost felt like a bouncy ball. We cut the lens in half and noticed it had layers like an onion. Behind the lens was this gooey stuff that felt like really watery jello. We removed that by squeezing the outside of the eye and it all came out. When that was out all that was left was the eye “case”. We cut four slits in the opening and turned the whole eye inside out. Now we could see blue shinny stuff on the bottom and pinkish brown on top of it. We removed the pink and all that was left was the case. We were given time at the end to do whatever we want to the eye and play around with it.
This whole experiance was very very gross but kind of interesting. At first I was not able to touch the eye at all. Then as we stated getting more into the disection I slowly stated getting more comfortable with touching and cuting the eye open. If I had the choice to do this again I would not. This was just too gross for me. It did help me learn more about the eye and how it works but I do not think I need to dissect another thing, At least not for a while. Carwai just teaching us about the eye was enough for me to understand how it works. Although this was not my faverite experience I am glad I got to experiance with it.
